Urban HeArt
Urban HeArt collective is an initiative started by Lead-Up Champions from Jocotenango, Guatemala with the aim of using and strengthening art as a tool for social transformation in their community.
All the members of Urban HeArt are artists and community activists at heart.
The collective is an initiative associated with the Lead-Up program as part of its third stage, Being the Change.
Among its main initiatives is the Urban HeArt Tour, a sustainable community tour through which they seek to share their stories, art and spaces.
During the tour, the youth are the community guides acting as a bridge between community members and visitors, sharing various forms of urban art and life stories at each stop.
At is core, Urban HeArt has a Social Transformation component that seeks to improve the conditions of their community.
This component seeks to transform their marginalised community through art.
It also seeks to improve the environmental conditions of their community.
by contributing to its sustainability and natural spaces by way of sustainable edible community gardens,.
And murals and art as advocacy for conservation and as a deterrent for street littering and contamination.
These Champions were inspired by a cultural and educational visit to Comuna 13 in Medellin, Colombia sponsored by Lead-Up Guatemala Patron, Joan Fuetsch and organized by Lead-Up International.

these young Champions are making their dreams of bringing peace and social transformation to their community come true through art with their collective Urban HeArt.
